What It’s Really Like to Be an Energy Healer in Aberdeen

Long before I ever called myself an energy healer, there was curiosity.

I was teaching Yin Yoga in Aberdeen and, at the end of class, I would often feel drawn to spend a few minutes with each person—gently working around their head in my own version of massage and finishing by grounding through their feet.

That curiosity eventually led me into Reiki, Quantum-Touch, and the energy healing work I now offer from my studio in Aberdeen.

From Yin Yoga to Reiki in Aberdeen

Five minutes at the end of class

It was probably only five minutes. But I became fascinated by what happened in those five minutes.

Every person felt different beneath my hands. Sometimes I would notice tingling or other subtle sensations.

But it was what people told me afterwards that really stayed with me.

“I felt so safe.” “There was such a sense of security.” “I had the best sleep.”

And I became curious.

Becoming a Reiki Master and discovering Quantum-Touch

Curiosity is a big part of who I am and how I work. I followed my intuition into Reiki training, continued learning, and eventually became a Reiki Master.

But I didn’t stop there. I researched different approaches to energy healing and was eventually drawn to Quantum-Touch. I particularly connected with the importance it places on the practitioner doing their own inner work. That resonated with me because I had already spent many hours exploring my own inner-child work and understanding myself at a deeper level.

I’ve also developed a real love of learning about the subtle energy fields of the universe and the human energy field. It’s something that continues to fascinate me and, over time, I feel this awareness has helped deepen the intuitive way I work with each person.

And then there is the breath.

What Energy Healing Feels Like to Me

This is where energy healing becomes harder for me to put into words.

When I consciously ground myself and work with my breath, I experience a connection to something beyond myself—what I think of as subtle energy. As I breathe and become deeply present, I experience that energy moving through me and upwards through the crown of my head.

Do I take on my clients’ energy?

Clients sometimes ask if I take on their energy or feel exhausted after a session. I don’t.

When I’m properly grounded, connected to my breath, and completely present with the person in front of me, I find myself in something I can only describe as a state of awe.

I don’t have a complicated ritual around it either. Some energy healers have spiritual practices around asking permission from the divine before they begin, and I respect that. For me, the client choosing to be there and consenting to receive energy healing is my permission.

I ground. I breathe. I become present. And I feel incredibly grateful to be doing the work.

What I feel during an energy healing session

Every client feels different.

Sometimes I experience pins and needles or tingling in my hands. Over time, I’ve come to associate that with energy being received or moving within the session.

At other times I’m intuitively drawn to stay around a particular area for longer. An area might feel heavier to me, or I may notice something as I explore the space around the body—what I understand within my practice as the aura. I’ve even experienced discomfort in my own hands while working around a particular part of someone’s body.

But I don’t immediately decide what any of these sensations mean. I become curious. And I invite the client to become curious too.

Resonance, entrainment, and energy

Through my research I’ve also become fascinated by resonance and entrainment—concepts used in physics to describe how oscillating systems can respond to frequencies and, under certain conditions, become synchronised. Within energy-healing traditions, these ideas are sometimes used as a way of thinking about the connection between practitioner and client.

For me, they offer one way of making sense of something I experience but can’t scientifically prove.

When I’m grounded, breathing consciously, and deeply present, I experience myself as channelling what I would describe as a higher vibrational energy. Within my understanding of energy work, I think of the client as having the opportunity to resonate with that state.

I don’t offer that as a scientific explanation of energy healing. It’s simply one way I understand my experience.

What Might You Experience During Reiki or Energy Healing?

This varies enormously too.

Some clients tell me they see vivid colours. Others experience heat or cold. Some describe a feeling of something flowing through the body or a rumble or wave moving through them.

I don’t tell people what these experiences mean. I’m much more interested in asking: “What does it feel like to you?”

A client’s story: the feeling of falling

One client described a sensation during a session as though she were slowly falling from a height. Rather than interpreting it for her, we became curious about it.

As we talked, she connected the feeling of falling with fear she was experiencing in her life—fear of falling, failing, and not being good enough.

Could I know that was what caused the physical sensation? No. But the sensation had opened a doorway into something meaningful for her.

And this is where my energy healing sessions can become about much more than energy alone.

Where Pain Reprocessing Therapy Meets Energy Healing

If an emotion, memory, or uncomfortable physical sensation arises during a session, we can gently explore it.

This is where I naturally weave in my training in Pain Reprocessing Therapy and somatic work, alongside my experience of inner-child work.

Where do you feel it in your body? What does it feel like? Can we breathe into it? Can we experience the sensation with curiosity rather than immediately becoming frightened by it?

Within my energy work, I might think of this as allowing energy to move through the body. Through the lens of Pain Reprocessing Therapy and somatic work, I’m also interested in helping someone experience bodily sensations with greater safety and less fear.

Sometimes a memory or a younger part of ourselves comes into our awareness. We don’t force it. We don’t have to analyse everything. We simply notice what is there and become curious about what it might mean for you.

For me, this is where the different parts of my work naturally come together—Reiki and energy healing, breath, the body, Pain Reprocessing Therapy, inner-child work, and curiosity.

You don’t have to explore anything deeper

Not everyone comes to me wanting to explore something deeper. Sometimes someone comes for energy healing in Aberdeen because they simply want to lie down, close their eyes, receive, and deeply relax.

And that’s absolutely okay too. There is no right way to receive a session.

The Final Five Minutes of a Session

Around five minutes before the end of a session, I gently bring the client back into an awareness of the room and the space around them.

I quietly offer a simple prayer for peace—for the person in front of me, for the people they love, and for the wider world.

Then there is silence. Those final few minutes are simply an opportunity to absorb and embody whatever the session has been for them.

Afterwards, we talk. Very often people tell me they feel deeply calm and settled. At other times something emotional or meaningful has arisen that they want to share.

There isn’t one particular experience I’m looking for. And perhaps that’s why, after all these years, I’m still so curious.

Being an Energy Healer in Aberdeen

Sometimes a client walks out of my studio in Aberdeen and I close the door behind them and just stand there for a moment. I feel grateful.

There is something incredibly special about another human being trusting you enough to lie down, close their eyes, and allow themselves to be supported.

I think back to those first five minutes at the end of a Yin Yoga class—gently working around someone’s head, grounding their feet, and wondering why every person felt so different.

That curiosity has taken me through Reiki, becoming a Reiki Master, Quantum-Touch, breathwork, Pain Reprocessing Therapy, inner work, and many hours of sitting with and learning from the people who come through my door.

And I still don’t have all the answers. I don’t think I need to.

I listen with more than my ears. I stay curious. And when someone leaves my room, I often feel blessed myself to have been able to do this work.

Grateful. Full of love. And still a little in awe of it all.
